Overview

Dr. Anandathirtha H. S completed his cardiovascular and thoracic surgery residency (training) from Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur, India from a university teaching hospital which is one of the busiest cardiothoracic centers in Northern India with an annual case load of 1800 cases. During my residency, I underwent training in cardiothoracic surgery and intensive care which covered wide spectrum of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

Being a university teaching hospital, the cases included whole spectrum of adult cardiac surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, aortovascular and thoracic surgery except transplants and complex neonatal cardiac surgery.

As an Associate consultant at Manipal Heart Institute, Manipal Hospital Bangalore, India Dr. Anandathirtha H. S underwent training and exposure to diagnosis, planning, operative and post-operative management of complex congenital cardiac surgeries like neonatal shunts, Fontan operation, Arterial switch operation, Double switch operation and Rastelli’s operation and homograft revisions and redo-operations. He was also involved in aortic surgeries and day to day management of homograft procurement and its cryo-banking. Dr. Anandathirtha H. S also had the opportunity to be an active member of the dedicated ECMO team involved in one of the few fully fledged ECMO programs in India in 2013 at Manipal Heart Institute, Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, India involving both adult and pediatric cases when we were one of the few center providing ECMO retrieval and management for both adults and pediatrics patients in the country between 2012-2013.

In 2013 he joined Narayana Multi-specialty Hospital, Mysore (A unit of Narayana Health formerly Narayana Hrudayalaya) in 2013 and have been independently operating most of the routine surgeries across adult and pediatric cardiac (non-neonatal) and thoracic surgery. Apart from the routine surgeries, he was also involved in high risk surgeries like pericardiectomy, redo-valve surgeries, and some minimal access surgeries which include atrial septal defects, and valve replacements (through mini sternotomies and mini-thoracotomies) and some aortic surgery.

Dr. Anandathirtha H. S trained at Lancashire Cardiac Center, Blackpool, United Kingdom as an international fellow between October 2018 to June 2020 in various aspects of cardiac and thoracic surgery including minimal invasive surgery. He then did a transplant fellowship at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and was trained in thoracic organ retrieval and transplantation including endomyocardial biopsy, right heart catheterization, immunosuppression and various aspects of short and long-term mechanical circulatory support.

Dr. Anandathirtha H. S took up a consultant post with Fortis Hospital at Dehradun and Noida between September 2021-October 2022 as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon and then took up a consultant post at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad attached to medical school and was one of the surgeons setting up the department. He was selected for aortic fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK which he accepted and joined in June 2023. Dr. Anandathirtha H. S hold full registration with NHS Blood and transplant since 2021 for thoracic organ retrieval in the UK and have good experience in endomyocardial biopsy.
