Overview
Department of Radiation Oncology was inaugurated and initiated along with the oncology block by our Founding Chairman Late Dr M.S.Ramaiah back in 1998. A telecobalt unit, the ATC-C9 as well as the low dose rate(LDR) brachytherapy unit was installed and operational initially. The departments academic activities started in 2002 with the introduction of the post-graduate course.
In 2008, Radiation Oncology was initiated at MS Ramaiah Institute of Oncosciences with the installation of Siemens Linear accelerator system. The high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy system was installed and has been functional since 2014.
The Department of Radiation Oncology aims to provide high-quality cancer care to our patients. Our doctors have specialized training in performing radiation treatment for people with cancer as well as those with certain non-cancerous (benign) conditions. We follow an evidence-based approach and have state-of-the-art equipment like Truebeam LINAC teletherapy machine, SagiNova brachytherapy, and Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT) machines to deliver our treatment. This specialized expertise and multi-disciplinary tumor board decision ensures precision treatment and improved outcomes.
The department has had many upgrades & modifications since then and is today considered one of the premier destinations for comprehensive cancer care with an ethical & evidence-based approach.
